According to the Yellow emperor the energy completes full circle of the whole meridians’ system 25 times during the day and 25 times during the night. During 24 hours period the energy completes a total of 50 cycles.

One day has 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds. One energy cycle is then 1728 seconds or 28.8 minutes. During acupuncture the needles must retain for at least one full cycle or 28.8 minutes. The longest should be 2 energy cycles or 57.6 minutes.

To make things simpler acupuncture session should be between 30-60 minutes. Shorter treatment then 30 minutes are not effective and should be avoided.
