Cysts and statistics

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

“I took fertility drugs at the beginning of this cycle, as instructed by my reproductive endocrinologist, and I just found out that I have developed two cysts one on each ovary. I did not get my period for six weeks now as my estrogen levels were too high. I asked my doctor if it is possible that the cysts are from the fertility drugs. He looked at me with a stern expression and replied: “ The likelihood of this is a mere five percent”.

This story and many more are routine in the Hunyuan Acupuncture center. Recently I have chosen, in random, twenty patients and asked them about previous fertility treatments, before coming to the Hunyuan center. I have found out that sixteen patients out of the twenty asked have had some issues with ovarian cysts following conventional fertility treatments. This added up quickly to a staggering eighty percent.

Many patients are weary of using herbs. Many believe that much is unknown and that there are no studies out there. But isn’t there really any study out there. Hundreds or even thousands of years of accumulated experience with herbal formulas have taught us a tremendous amount of knowledge. In Chinese medicine the knowledge is so vast that ancient practitioner could forecast years in advance what the consequences of taking herbs will be. Practical studies of one generation after another have proved fruitful over the centuries with the creation of a very systematic and successful herbal formulas. Western science is an evolving science and should be viewed as such. There are so many things that are unknown as of yet. Meaning that many infertility conditions that are unknown or unexplained, in reality might have a reason, however it is simply unknown as of yet. In Chinese medicine, after thousands of years, there is no such thing as unknown. The Chinese medicine science is ripe and comprehensive. that is why so many unexplained infertility patients become pregnant in the Hunyuan center.
